Super Psycho – Short Story (Superhero)

Saturday: I leaped off a building. Scary. Not as much fun as I thought. The cape was a nice touch. Soaring through the streets I found the street filthy with trash and hordes of trash people. Do they really deserve to be saved? They certainly don’t deserve to know my true identity. I know what they’ll say, that the mask is a deception, that I’m hiding behind it. But I’m not a liar. Being a hero out ways any wrongdoing that might be perceived by the liars. At 315PM I found the bomb implanted on the bridge into the city. Disarmed it. Saw a school bus and the kids cheered me. Another day. Another duty fulfilled. Still didn’t make the news.

This city’s falling apart and no one is doing anything about it. Crime on the streets. It needs to be cleansed.

Ate dinner. Played a few video games where the pedestrians actually cheered me on. Life doesn’t always imitate art. Sometimes it’s a deception.

Monday: worked with Morese to make more super weapons for me. Airburst superconductors are hard to come by, and dangerous too. If used incorrectly they could level a whole block. Morese is one of my most trusted associates. If he can’t figure it out them nobody can. Tested phaser arm gauntlets on trash bags near apartment. Should be able to take out a few baddies with these. The city would benefit with less of them on the streets. This is part of the job. I help people. I don’t do this for pleasure. Heroes never hurt people for pleasure. But sometimes there has to be a few casualties if the world is to be made safer.

Sidekicks have always been part of the mythos of super vigilantes. And Morese, although smellier and older, and somewhat dependent on his enhanced goggles, had always known that the world can only transcend from those willing to do the hard work.

Tuesday: prevented a mugging. The woman ran away. Pedestrians are never thankful. Killed the muggers. Still didn’t make the news.

Wednesday: found drug dealers dealing their dope on 7th and Hillton. Used phasers to teach them a lesson. They won’t be dealing any more drugs.

Thursday: tested anti-gravity suit again. Flew off Kaiser Tower and landed safely in Central Harbor. Was fun.

Friday: broke into Harbor dock and saved a worker from falling from a broken crane. The worker tried to call the police but I stopped him.

Watch my favorite super hero blockbuster. Heroes inspire heroes. No fear. No weakness. No limits. I’ll never be called “mentally ill” ever again. Never.

Saturday: watched my favorite cartoon. An anime about a super samurai. Zero X isn’t ashamed of killing to save the princess. Obtained weapons from Morese. He was being sketchy as always. His place smells of old meat and plastic. Went to South Bridge and planned next mission. Sacrifices will have to be made. I might make the news. This one’s going to be big.

Sunday: the big day. I pressed the button on the timer as I leapt from Kaiser Tower. Sky is a perfect blue across the cityscape. The civilians don’t know what’s coming but maybe the liars will understand. They seem to understand the world better than the rest of humanity. Hopefully some will die in the explosion. The explosion detonated right on time as the airburst bomb was dropped from the top of North Bridge. Middle section of bridge began to collapse and crack the central point, breaking the bridge in half. I fly gracefully down to help civilians, the ones that can be saved, making sure my cape is seen by everyone around. Thank God there’s a news truck nearby. I pull bodies from the wreckage and look stoic. The police arrive and point their guns. A few phaser blasts lay them out. Don’t they know a hero when they see one! They’re probably corrupt anyways. Parts of the bridge collapsed into the bay as I use my grappling hook to swing over it and down into the lower catwalks. I make sure there are no remnants of my bomb left. The investigators will never find anything. They can’t tie it back to me. Another day. Another successful mission as a hero to this city. My deeds will be measured not by my body count but by my goodwill towards man. Liars and hypocrites never win.
